MARTIN PARR

Text by Robert Chesshyre

At the height of Margaret Thatcher's overhaul of the British economy, employment and wages were down while taxes and prices went up. As prices rocketed, British citizens found it more economical to take a quick trip over to France in order to stockpile things such as alcohol and cigarettes. Martin was there to document it on the ferry trips and the shopping sprees in French hypermarkets.

We have only a handful of copies - all new and in very good condition given that the book is over 30 years old. This was one of our COVID discoveries when we checked through our local storage recently.
